ESSA - Every Parent's Right-to-Know Notice
Pickett County Schools – Parent's Right-to-Know Notice
Your Right to Know About Your Child’s Teachers
Dear Pickett County Families,
Under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), parents of students attending a Title I school have the right to request information about the professional qualifications of their child’s classroom teachers and support staff.
What Information Can You Request?
You have the right to ask for and receive information regarding:
- Whether your child’s teacher has met Tennessee licensing guidelines and certification criteria for the grade levels and subject areas they teach.
- Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency, provisional, or temporary waiver status through which state licensing criteria have been waived.
- The teacher’s college major, any graduate degrees or certifications held, and the field of discipline of those degrees.
- Whether your child is provided services by a paraprofessional (teacher's aide) and, if so, what their qualifications are.
Additional Right Regarding Long-Term Substitutes
Our schools are also required to notify you in writing if your child has been assigned to, or has been taught for four (4) or more consecutive weeks by, a teacher who does not yet meet Tennessee state certification or licensure requirements for that specific class.
How to Request This Information
We are proud of our educators and happy to share this information with you. If you would like to make a request, please contact your child's school principal or the Pickett County Schools Federal Programs Director at the central office.
You can also instantly verify any teacher's current Tennessee teaching credentials online using the public Tennessee Department of Education Educator License Lookup
